September 19 - Babes with Blades to host "Swords for Rusty Broads and Gents"

BABESWITHBLADES.ORG - Local sword-wielding stuntfighters Babes with Blades will host a workshop "Swords, for Rusty Broads and Gentlemen, Saturday, September 19, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Emerald City Theater School, 2933 N. Southport Ave. Special Focuses are: Victorian Umbrella Self Defence for Ladies and Gentlemen and "Dirrrty Knife Fighting."

According to information provided by Babes with Blades: "Space will be available 9:30-10 for check-in & warmups. Participants should be aware that the space is used by a tap dance ensemble, and clothes may pick up residue from the tappers' shoes whilst rolling around on the floor. Wear stuff you don't need to keep spotless."

"Where the Wild Things Are" Chicago premiere. Meet Spike Jonze and Dave Eggers in person

MUSIC BOX THEATER - Join directore Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovitch) and writer Dave Eggers (Away We Go),for the Chicago premiere of "Where the Wild Things Are," based on Maurice Sendak's classic children's book. Max, sent to bed without his supper, creates his own world - a forest inhabited by ferocious wild creatures that crown Max as their ruler. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit 826CHI, a Chicago nonprofit creative writing and tutoring lab. General tickets ($30) include admission to the screening and Q&A with Jones and Eggers.
